Some Inspirations
for the Journey
I went to the desert of Tucson, AZ to study spiritual direction because I am inspired by the faith of the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the Christian tradition and wanted to learn in that environment. I hoped to better understand the spiritual strength they all seemed to find in the desert.
The desert's juxtaposition of delicate beauty and harsh living conditions reminded me of the ability of the Creator to make things thrive in impossible situations. In the relative quiet of the desert landscape, I found a peace and calm that I had never before experienced.
To try to keep the desert in my heart, I have compiled some quotes and images that inspire that feeling in me or encourage me when I am sitting in times of discomfort. I hope they inspire you, too!
